I recently discovered this artsy sounding rock band band out of Canada. Braids is their name. They’ve got a strong “Cults” vibe mixed in with a bit some early “Animal Collective” sounds. I feel like they can put on a mad show from listening to their record. Unfortunately, Braids doesn’t have any tour dates set for this summer or fall in the states, just a few festivals in Canada. Give them a listen, its the kinda music that can give you some really intense dreams if you fall asleep listening to them. Like, being dragged out of your bed by something you cant see and pulled up against a wall while your body is completely stiff…true story…

Fleet Foxes, the Seattle based band, praised for their lyrics from a different time and refined vocal harmonies is set to release their sophomore album “Helplessness Blues” May 3rd. This album continues to break down traditional strong structures and emphasizes more on extended jams with a groove based feel. I find it difficult to compare Fleet Foxes to any other band. I was once giving the comparison, “Neil Young vocals with a soft Animal Collective sound.” That is probably the best description i could give. I have never seen this band live, so i can’t really say how i feel about their performance on stage but i plan on making it to their May 11th show in Dallas. This song that i’m sharing, Lorelai, is my favorite on the album. It makes me want to dance in a wide open field with lots of friends.
Give this album a listen. Its a commendable follow up album to their self titled album from 2008.
Stuck In My Head Blog: Introduction
I’ve never considered myself a writer. So the thought of having a music blog to share my thoughts on music that i love and hate has never really crossed my mind until i realized i do that in my everyday life anyways. Sometimes, I’m not too sure if the background knowledge i have about bands or certain albums means anything to anyone. But it is something i have always enjoyed learning. I like to know where and how the music i enjoy came about. That doesn’t mean i want to creepily know all the things about these musicians, like things you might read in magazines about pop stars these days. I like to know about the inspiration behind a certain sound, where they came from, and little things like that. I feel like that is just as important as the music.
I live every moment with a song. or several songs. Someone says a word or phrase and it triggers a random song by a random band and i will be stuck singing along to it til another button in my head is pushed. I feel like those are the songs i want to share. It might be a song from the 60’s, it might be a local band no one has heard about, or it might be the exact song that was in your head. I just want to start sharing this. You might enjoy it. You might not.
Here it goes…
